Nokia and Microsoft join forces

Now whilst I’m not a fan of Microsoft, I do believe Nokia made the right decision when choosing an OS. Nokia held onto Symbian far too long for it’s smartphones and Maemo was great but whatever happened to the updates?

Meego… well, that failed from word go. Was it always playing catch up? Going through too many changes? Or just too slow to market? It has taken over 2 years to produce… meego nothing. The hopes of building an ecosystem around it were even further afield.

Software aside: Nokia’s hardware is the best out there right now. Look at the complete package, battery life, stability, camera AND they use the most enviromentally friendly components out there.

Many developers are critising Nokia saying Andriod would of been the only choice for them… but think about for a second… Is that such a wise move?

Nokia are still the largest handset manufacturer globally. If they decided to deploy android on those handsets, it would be like handing google the market share on a plate. Everything that Nokia has build up over the past years.
What else does Nokia have to offer? Certainly not the services that google has… Bye bye Nokia in this case.

Joining with Microsoft could potentially be a massive window for opportunity IF they get it right. There is going to be a lot of work and a lot of changes.

Standby everyone. 2011 is going to be an interesting year.
Let the battle commence!
